KFx Medical Corporation adds Heaven and Pellegrino to management team and readies for product launch.
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) August 2, 2006 — KFx Medical Corporation, a developer of minimally invasive percutaneous repair systems for rotator cuff repair, has added Malcolm Heaven (VP Research and Development and Operations) and Greg D. Pellegrino (Director, Product & Procedural Marketing) to its management team.
We will enable far better torn rotator cuff repairs for patients — far more like an anatomic cuff.
Before joining KFx, Mr. Heaven was Vice President R&D/Ops for ATI Medical. Prior to that he was Vice President R&D /Ops for Situs, and Senior Vice President of Corporate Research and Development for Imagyn Medical Technologies, Inc., where he was responsible for all development activities supporting the Urology, Surgical, Gynecology, Critical Care/Anesthesiology and Medical/Surgical Divisions of the company. Earlier, Mr. Heaven was Co-Founder, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Advanced Surgical, Inc. and has spent more than 30 years in the biotechnology and materials science industries and is the holder of over 25 patents. He is a graduate of the College of Advanced Technology in Birmingham, England, and a Chartered Scientist.
Mr. Pellegrino has product marketing experience in Class I, II and III medical devices. Prior to joining KFx Medical, Mr. Pellegrino oversaw the minimally invasive total knee replacement program for the $1.7 billion Orthopaedics Division of Stryker Corporation, where he was responsible for driving pipeline product development, surgeon training and education and direct to patient marketing. Before Stryker, Mr. Pellegrino worked for ATI Medical, a cancer therapeutic device start-up. He holds an undergraduate degree in marketing from San Diego State University.
"The addition of these highly experienced individuals will enable us to more rapidly bring our highly unique repair system to market later this year," said Tate Scott, President and CEO of KFx Medical. "We will enable far better torn rotator cuff repairs for patients — far more like an anatomic cuff."
Over four million people seek medical advice for shoulder pain every year; torn rotator cuffs alone account for more than 500,000 surgeries annually and have traditionally required many weeks of rehabilitation. Traditional minimally invasive techniques, although promising — patients typically experience less pain and regain full range of motion more quickly — require surgeons to have advanced videoscopic skills. In contrast, KFx provides simple systems for surgeons while ensuring more anatomical repair for the patient, yielding better clinical outcomes.
